SMALL VICTORY BREAD + COFFEE

If bars served coffee, and if they opened early, they would be Small Victory. The long coffee bar, exposed beams, and bustle of the staff make this place unique. It has been a big hit with the crowds since opening in late 2014. The menu offers everything from baked goods, like croissants and scones, to more substantial fare such as sandwiches and salads. We like to start with a healthy salad and finish with a not-so-healthy (but very tasty) almond croissant. Small Victory also has a full espresso bar, so pair your baked treats with a latte. And definitely check out the milk dispenser.

The interiors, by design firm Campos Leckie, are bright and contemporary. Large faceted brass ornamentation adhere to the walls, playing off the light which fills the space. The rest of the material palette is rounded out with simple white and wood tones.  The back-of-house operations of the bakery are showcased in the space creating an interesting juxtaposition of patrons relaxing for hours over coffee and conversation, and the bakery staff working feverishly to keep up with demand.  This bakery is a welcome addition to Yaletown that suffers from a severe lack of character cafés.
